based in Toronto, collecting first-hand data on our province's universities and colleges. They plan to use the information from their visits, to construct a strategic plan that will respond to their need to strengthen their vocational and technical education infrastructure.

Last week the group visited Conestoga College, Renison College/University of Waterloo, University of Guelph, and Fanshawe College in London. They also spent time visiting the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery and our local landmarks.

Vietnam is undergoing massive educational reform. It is reported that the overall objective of tertiary educational reform in the next 15 years in Vietnam is to achieve basic changes in the quality and scope of the system so that it can respond to the country's socio-economic development and the people's demands for further studies. It is expected that by December 2006, the proposal to establish Vietnamese universities of international standard will be completed and submitted for approval.

"In an effort to address these issues, Vietnam's General Department on Vocational Training of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Issues (MOLISA), is cooperating with foreign partners in retraining teaching staffs and improving vocational curriculums. Current vocational and technical education projects include 76 long-term training programs focusing on teaching 48 specific job skills, and 27 short-term training programs."      Source: Industry Canada
